California, May 9-20
After Las Vegas headed to California. Spent a night in a
hotel in Bakersfield--at a Rodeway Inn--had a nice pool, and then stayed
with my cousin, Pat, in Foster City, near San Francisco. Didn't take
many pictures (unfortunately) in San Francisco!
Met good friend, Pamela, in the Mission area of SF for Tapas (forgot to
take pictures!).
Was great! Also, got to see my Aunt Agatha and Pat's good friend, Ginny.
Pat and I went to Castro Valley to see my other cousin, Lois, (from my
mother's side) and we went for Chinese food for lunch. Lois showed us
her gorgeous garden and her knitting projects. Then I went to Berkeley
to see another more distant cousin, Avis. Had a lovely lunch at a local
restaurant. Then headed north to Arcata to see friends, Barbara and
Stan. Golden Gate Bridge was foggy. Enjoyed driving through the city and
passed the avenues--brought back so many memories of when I lived on
26th Avenue. Almost, drove by apartment.
The red woods were beautiful on the way to Arcata further north.
Met Barbara years ago at work when I was a temp in San Francisco. We instantly clicked and have been best of
friends since--and have visited each other when we were both living in
Europe over the years. Barb and Stan own the
Finnish Country Sauna and
Hot Tubs and Cafe Mokka in Arcata. I enjoyed soaking in the hot tub one
afternoon. If you're ever in the area, it's a must!
Looked at two places to rent if my condo is rented longer. One place in
Emoryville; which was kinda funky. A way ancient weird gas stove--an
efficiency apartment, one big room. Would be ok, but area kinda dicey. Have to drive everywhere. Lots of used appliance stores and thrift
shops, but relatively close to Berkeley. Then, looked at a place in
Redwood City that would be great -- has a pool and garden, but no window
treatments for large glass door and picture window to yard. Wouldn't
bother me for a living room or kitchen, but again one large room, and
would sleep in that room--would give me creeps to sleep on ground floor
with large windows without curtains or blinds. The landlord had also
mentioned that there had been two break-ins when she first purchased the
house. Also, corresponding with someone in Oakland Hills for a cottage.
Will see.
Heading north to state of Washington to see a few friends.
